Prince Buthelezi Mall Set for April 2026 Grand Opening in Empangeni

Prince Buthelezi Mall Set for April 2026 Grand Opening in Empangeni. The highly anticipated Prince Buthelezi Mall is nearing completion, with doors set to open by the end of April 2026. Located in the affluent Empangeni neighborhood, the multi-million rand development represents a major investment in northern KwaZulu-Natal and promises to usher in a new era of modern, convenience-driven retail for the Empangeni and Richards Bay area.
Developed by the Moolman Group in partnership with Twin City and Melta Capital, the mall is the result of four years of planning and 15 months of construction. Designed as a regional retail hub, it will feature a curated mix of essentials, fashion, food, and leisure in a safe, climate-controlled environment. Excitement is mounting as the opening date draws closer.
With approximately 37,000m² of gross leasable area, the mall will house around 90 stores, including dual anchor tenants spanning supermarkets, fashion outlets, restaurants, specialty retailers, and drive-throughs — many of which will be firsts for the area. More than 2,000 workers were employed during construction, with additional jobs expected as retailers begin trading.
Beyond the mall itself, developers are investing over R90 million into upgrading surrounding infrastructure, including bridges and roads leading to the centre. Collaboration with local taxi associations is also underway to ensure efficient commuter access, supported by an on-site taxi rank and ample free parking.
Inspired by the green hills of the region, the mall’s design blends modern architecture with an upmarket aesthetic. Shoppers can expect communal seating areas, greenery, a large entertainment space with a big screen viewing area, free Wi-Fi, creative kids’ play zones, and strong security measures.
Community engagement has already begun, with school tours and operational preparations underway to build familiarity and excitement ahead of the launch.Prince Buthelezi Mall is envisioned as a first-class regional centre, combining contemporary design, thoughtful amenities, and shared spaces. For Empangeni, it represents confidence in the area’s growth and a tangible step forward in its retail landscape.
