Shell Opens Western Cape Powershop Programme for Small Automotive Businesses
Shell Opens Western Cape Powershop Programme for Small Automotive Businesses. Shell Downstream South Africa has opened applications for its Shell Lubricants Powershop Programme, offering selected small automotive businesses in the Western Cape access to business support and branded enterprise units.
The programme is aimed at mechanics, motor body repairers and auto-spares retailers, particularly businesses operating in township and rural areas.
Five successful applicants will receive container-based enterprise units, access to Shell lubricants, promotional materials and business support. The units are intended to provide participating businesses with a more visible retail presence while giving them access to Shell products and marketing support.
To qualify, applicants must be at least 18 years old, be South African citizens residing in South Africa and have previous entrepreneurial experience.
Businesses must also operate from a township or rural area and have approved access to land or a suitable site where the container unit can be installed.
Ngqiqo Mahlutshana, channel development manager for Route-to-Market at Shell Downstream South Africa, said the initiative is intended to create opportunities for emerging entrepreneurs within the lubricants sector.
“The Shell Lubricants Powershop Programme working alongside the Shell LiveWIRE Programme is aimed at driving inclusivity within the lubricants sector while creating opportunities for emerging entrepreneurs to become part of the Shell Lubricants network,” Mahlutshana said.
The programme forms part of Shell’s wider entrepreneurship initiatives and combines access to products and promotional resources with business development support.
For small automotive businesses, the opportunity provides a potential route to strengthen their operations while establishing a retail presence connected to the Shell Lubricants network.
Mahlutshana said supporting local businesses could also contribute to wider economic activity in communities.
“The success of local businesses has a ripple effect that extends well beyond the enterprise itself. Stronger businesses can contribute to thriving communities, support livelihoods and inspire future entrepreneurs,” he said.
Applications are currently open to qualifying automotive entrepreneurs across the Western Cape.
The deadline for applications is 4 September 2026. Eligible businesses can apply through the Shell Powershop Programme.
