Western Cape Launches Free Export Compliance Course for Businesses. Western Cape businesses and logistics professionals looking to strengthen their understanding of international trade can access a free, self-paced online course covering export compliance, customs and supply chain procedures.

The nine-module programme was developed by the Western Cape Department of Economic Development and Tourism (DEDAT) in partnership with the International Trade Institute of Southern Africa (ITISA). It forms part of the province’s Growth for Jobs Strategy.

The course focuses on the practical requirements involved in moving goods across international borders. Its modules cover international transport services, cargo insurance, Incoterms 2020, export administration and customs procedures.

Western Cape Minister of Agriculture, Economic Development and Tourism, Dr Ivan Meyer, said export growth can support job creation and economic development.

He said the online course is intended to provide entrepreneurs and businesses with practical skills to access new markets, expand their customer base and contribute to the province’s export-led growth agenda.The programme has also been used by businesses dealing with export-related requirements.

Alicia Somdaka, founder and CEO of agro-processing company Imbali Nature’s Crown, said the training assisted her with compliance, export documentation and tariff classification. She said the course also helped her redesign product labels to meet export requirements and prepare for shipments to Europe and the Middle East.

Sandiswa Masimini, another course participant, said the programme strengthened her understanding of export operations, including documentation, compliance, logistics and customs procedures.

The curriculum is aimed at entrepreneurs and SMMEs seeking to enter international markets, business development professionals, trade facilitators and export managers seeking to strengthen their operational capabilities.
