SPAR Recalls Selected Yoghurt Products Across South Africa Following Production Fault

SPAR Recalls Selected Yoghurt Products Across South Africa Following Production Fault. SPAR has announced a nationwide recall of selected SPAR-branded yoghurt products after identifying a production fault that may affect product quality and could cause stomach upset if consumed.

The recall was announced by the National Consumer Commission (NCC) on 9 July 2026 and applies to specific yoghurt products sold across South Africa from 15 June 2026.

According to the NCC, the recall follows notification from SPAR after a machine malfunction during production resulted in products “blowing”, a defect that can alter a yoghurt’s taste, smell and appearance.

SPAR said the equipment failure occurred during the manufacturing process and prompted the retailer to voluntarily remove the affected products from circulation as a precaution.

Consumers have been advised not to consume any of the recalled products, as they may experience stomach discomfort or other mild gastrointestinal symptoms. The retailer said the recall forms part of its product safety procedures and was communicated to the NCC in accordance with consumer protection regulations.

The recall affects selected batches of SPAR Fat Free Yoghurt, SPAR Low Fat Yoghurt, SPAR Double Cream Yoghurt, SPAR Indulge Double Cream Yoghurt and SPARActive Drinking Yoghurt.

Only products with a sell-by date of 9 August 2026 and a use-by date of 12 August 2026 are included in the recall.

Customers who have purchased any of the affected products are encouraged to stop using them immediately and return them to their nearest SPAR store.

According to the retailer, consumers returning the recalled products will be offered either a full refund or an exchange for a replacement product.

The NCC has urged consumers to act promptly by checking the dates on their yoghurt products and responding to the recall to reduce any potential health risks.

The commission said product recalls play an important role in protecting consumers by removing potentially affected products from the market and supporting food safety and quality assurance processes.

Consumers are also encouraged to remain alert to product recall notices issued by retailers and manufacturers, particularly those involving food products.
