Cape Chamber Opens National Survey to Capture South Africa’s Business Challenges. The Cape Chamber of Commerce and Industry has launched a nationwide survey aimed at gathering direct feedback from businesses to better understand the opportunities and challenges shaping South Africa’s business environment.
Developed in partnership with the Bureau for Economic Research (BER) at Stellenbosch University, the National Business Environment Survey invites businesses of all sizes, sectors and provinces to share their experiences of operating in the country.
The survey takes approximately 10 minutes to complete and asks participants about their business operations, local business environment, industry, province and the broader national economy.
Cape Chamber Chief Executive Officer John Lawson said the initiative is intended to provide decision-makers with practical information that reflects the realities businesses face on a daily basis.
According to Lawson, the survey is designed to generate insights that can assist stakeholders, including municipalities and industry bodies, in identifying priorities across different sectors and regions.
He added that while some large businesses have traditionally been able to engage directly with policymakers, many smaller businesses have lacked an effective platform to collectively communicate their experiences and concerns.
Unlike reports based primarily on economic data, the survey focuses on the experiences of businesses operating across South Africa. The organisers believe these insights can help identify emerging opportunities, persistent challenges and changing business conditions.
The Bureau for Economic Research will independently administer the survey and analyse the results. Individual responses will remain confidential, with findings published only in aggregated form to ensure that no business or respondent can be identified.
Once the survey has closed, the results will be made available through an online reporting platform hosted by the Cape Chamber. The platform will allow users to explore trends across industries, provinces and business sizes, compare findings and generate downloadable reports.
The Cape Chamber said the initiative forms part of its long-term commitment to strengthening understanding of South Africa’s business environment through research and collaboration.
Businesses across the country have been encouraged to participate before the survey closes in three weeks, with organisers highlighting that broad participation will help build a more representative picture of the national business landscape.
