Ford Recalls 2,275 New Rangers in Southern Africa Over Airbag Safety Concern. Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa has recalled 2,275 Ranger Double Cab vehicles following a potential safety issue involving the side curtain airbags, according to the National Consumer Commission (NCC).
The recall affects vehicles from the 2026 to 2027 production year that were sold through Ford franchised dealers across South Africa between 22 May and 23 June 2026.
The potential defect relates to the interaction between the side curtain airbags and the B-Pillar trim during deployment.
Side curtain airbags may not deploy as intended
According to the NCC, the side curtain airbags in affected Ranger Double Cab vehicles may come into contact with the B-Pillar trim when they inflate.
This could prevent the airbags from deploying as intended, creating a potential safety risk for vehicle occupants.
The NCC also said the B-Pillar ramp could detach from the vehicle during airbag deployment and become a projectile. This could increase the risk of injury to people inside the vehicle.
The affected vehicles were sold in South Africa and also exported to Namibia, Botswana, Lesotho and Eswatini.
Owners urged to contact Ford dealers
Owners and users of vehicles covered by the recall have been advised to contact their nearest authorised Ford dealership to arrange an inspection.
Any repairs or other remedial work required as part of the recall will be carried out at no cost to consumers.
The NCC urged owners to respond to the recall and contact Ford without delay, highlighting the safety-critical nature of the affected component.
“The recall affects a safety-critical component of a significant number of vehicles. Owners or users of these vehicles should contact the supplier without delay,” said Hardin Ratshisusu, acting commissioner of the NCC.
The commission said it will monitor the recall process to ensure affected vehicles in South Africa are attended to.
Recall covers specific production period
The recall does not apply to all Ford Ranger vehicles, but specifically covers the identified Ranger Double Cab vehicles from the 2026 to 2027 production year that fall within the affected production and sales parameters.
Ford owners who are uncertain whether their vehicles are included in the recall are advised to contact an authorised Ford dealership for assistance.
The recall comes as consumer and vehicle safety authorities continue to oversee manufacturer responses to identified defects affecting vehicles in the market.
For affected Ranger owners, the NCC’s advice is to arrange the required inspection with Ford and have any necessary remedial work completed at no cost.
