Instarc secures €1.25 million investment for South African expansion

Instarc secures €1.25 million investment for South African expansion. Tallinn-based regulatory technology company Instarc has secured a €1.25 million strategic investment from HFO Investments to support the commercial rollout of its compliance platform in South Africa.

HFO Investments joined Instarc as a strategic investor, with advice from Athena Capital and Option 3 Capital. The funding will support Instarc’s expansion in a market where regulated businesses are subject to compliance requirements under the Financial Intelligence Centre Act (FICA).

Instarc’s cloud-native platform combines Know Your Customer (KYC) and customer due diligence (CDD) processes. Its features include customer onboarding, identity and ownership verification, configurable workflows, document management and audit records.

The platform also provides application programming interfaces (APIs), allowing compliance functions to connect with existing systems.

Instarc said its platform is designed to integrate compliance processes into an institution’s wider operating model instead of managing them as a separate system. Workflows can be configured around products, risk appetite and institutional controls, while allowing organisations to adjust processes as regulatory requirements change.

Jonathan Revell, chief executive officer of Instarc, said the company developed the platform to help regulated organisations streamline customer onboarding and compliance processes.

“We are now applying that expertise in South Africa, helping organisations replace fragmented compliance processes with modern regulatory infrastructure,” Revell said.

James McKeown, chief revenue officer and co-founder of Instarc, said his experience with regulated cross-border businesses in South Africa influenced the company’s approach to compliance technology.

The investment comes as South African accountable institutions continue to operate within FICA requirements, including customer due diligence and record-keeping obligations.

Ollie Heinamann, managing partner at Option 3 Capital, said the investment reflects demand for compliance technology among regulated businesses in South Africa.
