Homechoice Names Former Mr Price and Jet Executive Shane van Niekerk as CEO

Homechoice Names Former Mr Price and Jet Executive Shane van Niekerk as CEO. Homechoice has appointed former Mr Price Group and Jet executive Shane van Niekerk as its new CEO, with the retail executive set to take over the omnichannel homeware business on 1 November 2026.
Van Niekerk brings 26 years of experience at Mr Price Group to the role, where he was involved in building Mr Price Home and launching Mr Price Sport.
He later served as managing director of Jet, where he worked on reshaping the business, developed its Jet Home proposition and led the business through its subsequent acquisition by TFG.
Van Niekerk’s appointment comes as Homechoice prepares for its next phase of growth. The retailer was established in 1985 as a direct-marketing business selling bedding and homeware to South African women, including customers who traditionally had limited access to credit.
The company has since developed an omnichannel retail model, with its homeware products available through digital platforms and more than 60 physical showrooms across South Africa.
Shirley Maltz, executive deputy chair at Weaver Fintech, which owns Homechoice, said Van Niekerk’s experience across retail concepts, customer understanding and business growth and turnaround periods made him suited to the position.
The appointment will see Van Niekerk succeed Chris de Wit, who has served as Homechoice’s retail CEO for the past five years.
Maltz thanked de Wit for his contribution and commitment to the business and wished him well for the future.
Van Niekerk’s career has included senior leadership responsibilities across established South African retail businesses, with his experience spanning homeware, sports retail and general merchandise.
At Homechoice, he will lead a business that has evolved significantly from its original direct-marketing model. Its current operations combine digital retail channels with a physical showroom network across the country.
The leadership change is scheduled to take effect on 1 November 2026, when Van Niekerk formally assumes the CEO role.
The appointment places an executive with experience in developing retail propositions and managing established businesses at the helm of Homechoice as the company enters its next phase under its parent, Weaver Fintech.
