South African Media Personality Maps Maponyane Announces The Closure Of One Of His Buns Out Restaurants. South African television presenter, actor, fashion designer, speaker, model, creative consultant, voice over artist, philanthropist and entrepreneur Maps Maponyane took to Instagram to announce that his Buns Out restaurant in Rosebank will be closing down due to the level 4 lockdown restrictions and the ban of the sale of alcohol.
The post read, “It is with great sadness that we post to you this evening to confirm the closure of our Rosebank branch. We had started on our journey in Rosebank with an eye on the future and optimism of growth and life beyond level 3 lockdown. Unfortunately, having been put back into level 4 lockdown and the restrictions that have been placed on us with regards to the sale of alcohol has made this journey ever tougher and insurmountable. As such we felt it is necessary to focus on the survival of our Linden and Norwood branches, both of whom continue to trade as normal. This has not been an easy decision but a necessary one and we hope to see you still getting your Buns Out regularly. It’s good for your health.”
Many restaurants are forced to close down their stores due to the lockdown restrictions. This industry is widely affected because it relies on the gathering of people and the sale of alcohol in-order for it to see a profit. With the restrictions in place, restaurants aren’t able to meet their targeted profits as they have to limit the number of people they can accommodate and not sell alcohol.
The industry contributes a very large percentage to the economy of the country and to the employment of individuals. With many of the restaurants forced to close down, the unemployment in South Africa will rise as the industry not only employs people directly but it also contributes to other businesses surviving indirectly.
