How Blue Nova Energy Aims To Support The Global Industry In Renewable And Off-grid Technology In Africa. Formed in July 2015, Blue Nova Energy (Pty) Ltd specialises in the development and manufacture of Energy Storage Solutions. BlueNova has recently formed a partnership with Reutech (Pty) Ltd. Consequently, the companies market opportunities for the application of LiFeYPO4 battery storage solutions in the Southern African region. Reutech is part of the JSE listed Reunert Group and are looking at providing Energy Storage Solutions at residential, commercial, industrial and utility scale.

The company’s first internationally exported intelligent Energy Storage System (iESS) has made it to it’s destination in Namibia. It will supply 1MWh of power as part of an off-grid, solar powered system. With rising electricity costs and so much instability in national power supply, large scale agricultural, industrial and residential installations can benefit from the cost-savings and reliability that the iESS can supply.

BlueNova focuses on creating new solutions in the lithium battery sector. The company’s production facility in Somerset West, near Cape Town helps it keep up with the rising demand for lithium-iron-yttrium-phosphate (LiFeYPO4) batteries. Lithium-ion batteries are an excellent alternative to lead-acid batteries; they are more environmentally-friendly and have up to six times the storage capacity. Furthermore lithium batteries are safer than lead-acid batteries.

Blue Nova supports a growing, global industry in renewable and off-grid technology in Africa. Many African countries struggle with unstable and unsustainable grid supply and high electricity costs. The company is proud of being a local South African company, and hopes to build a future where the local energy storage sector can become increasingly cost-effective, innovative and competitive, furthermore it hopes to create products that benefit the environment and consumers alike.
