Google Launches Applications for 2026 South Africa Startup Accelerator

Google Launches Applications for 2026 South Africa Startup Accelerator. Google has opened applications for the 2026 Google for Startups Accelerator: South Africa, a three-month programme aimed at supporting growth-stage, artificial intelligence-driven startups with funding, mentorship and access to advanced technology.

Applications opened on 21 July and will close on 28 August 2026.

The programme will select 15 South African-led startups to participate. According to Google, each successful business will receive up to R1 million in equity-free funding, allowing founders to retain ownership of their companies while using the funding to support growth.

Participants will also receive access to Google’s artificial intelligence technologies, cloud infrastructure and AI models, including Gemini, as well as technical guidance from Google engineers and specialists.

The announcement follows Google’s commitment, made during the Google Cloud Summit Johannesburg by Senior Vice-President for Labs, Research, Technology and Society James Manyika, to support 50 South African startups between 2024 and 2028.

The accelerator is open to South African-led startups that are owned or controlled by historically disadvantaged persons (HDPs) and are developing functional AI-powered products designed to address local market needs.

The hybrid programme will run from 28 September to 4 December 2026. During this period, founders will work with mentors and AI specialists to address product development, operational and data-related challenges. The curriculum also includes product roadmapping, growth strategy and goal-setting.

Participants will join a network of more than 25 local programme alumni as well as Google’s global accelerator community.

Folarin Aiyegbusi, Google’s Head of Startup Ecosystem for Africa, said the initiative reflects the company’s commitment to supporting the long-term growth of South Africa’s technology sector by providing startups with the resources needed to expand.

Since launching in 2018, the Google for Startups Accelerator Africa programme has supported more than 190 startups across 17 African countries. According to Google, participating businesses have collectively raised more than US$400 million, created over 3,500 jobs and benefited from US$5 million in equity-free funding and product credits.

Applications for the 2026 South African programme close on 28 August. Interested founders can apply through Google’s official startup programme website.
