702 MTN Small Business Awards Return for Third Year. The 702 MTN Small Business Awards are back for their third consecutive year, reaffirming the partnership between MTN and 702 in celebrating Gauteng’s entrepreneurial spirit. The initiative continues to shine a spotlight on small and medium enterprises (SMEs) that demonstrate resilience, innovation, and meaningful community impact — the cornerstones of South Africa’s socio-economic landscape.
Nominations opened on 25 March 2026 and will close on Friday, 10 April 2026. Residents, business owners, and customers across Gauteng are encouraged to nominate outstanding small businesses that have gone beyond expectations in serving their communities. Special emphasis is placed on township businesses, which remain vital drivers of local economies and innovation.
Finalists will be profiled on 702 and PrimediaPlus, with the awards ceremony scheduled for Thursday, 23 April 2026. Winners will not only receive recognition but also substantial support to sustain and grow their operations.
Prizes include:
- Business cash boost: R25,000 for first place, R20,000 for second, and R15,000 for third.
- Advertising packages on 702: R200,000 for the grand prize winner, and R100,000 each for the first and second runner-ups.
This year’s awards particularly aim to elevate businesses that champion inclusive economic participation and sustainable community development. Enterprises that demonstrate adaptability, innovation, and job creation — especially within historically marginalized communities — are strongly encouraged to enter.
Eligibility criteria require businesses to be SARS compliant, operational for at least 12 months, employ a minimum of two full-time staff, and be registered in South Africa. Excluded categories include liquor stores, firearm sales, gambling businesses, and NPOs/NGOs.
