Founder And CEO Of Khayelitsha’s First Four-Star Hotel Annette Skaap Shares The Reason She Established The Hotel. In an interview with SABC News, South African entrepreneur and founder of Khayelitsha’s first four-star hotel Annette Skaap shared the reason she established the hotel. Skaap seeks to elevate the township so that it’s economy can grow and therefore allow more businesses to be established.

She said, “I wanted to change the narrative that nothing good can come out of the township and that people from the township do not deserve luxury, and also I’ve travelled so I’ve been exposed to opulence and luxury so I thought why not bring that to Khayelitsha.” With this venture Skaap is showing people that there is value in the township economy and if people are willing to invest they will be part of the transformation that is set to happen.

The The Spade Hotel and Spa was established last year during the pandemic. It features accommodation with a restaurant, free private parking, an outdoor swimming pool and a bar. Featuring a shared lounge, the property is located within 28 km of Table Mountain. The accommodation offers a 24-hour front desk, room service and organising tours for guests. The rooms at the hotel are fitted with a seating area, a TV with satellite channels and a safety deposit box. Rooms also have a coffee machine, while certain rooms are fitted with a kitchenette with a microwave and a fridge. The units at The Spade Boutique Hotel and Spa have air conditioning and a desk.

Skaap really wanted people in the township to also experience luxury but in their own neighbourhood, this way they can also be inspired and see that their dreams can become a reality if they work hard. This hotel is also creating much needed employment and by doing so it is helping with the social issues that affect Khayelitsha.
