Herotel’s Ambitious Goal Of Connecting All South Africans To The Internet

Herotel’s Ambitious Goal Of Connecting All South Africans To The Internet. Internet connectivity has become an essential service in everyday life, it is how people make money, school their children, connect with their loved ones and entertain themselves after a hard day’s work. With technology advancing at a rapid pace, the access to internet has become even more important as most of the things these days are done online. Having internet access means that an individual has access to information that they can use to better their lives.

Herotel is a wireless internet service provider that offers high-speed wireless internet. It was co-founded in 2014 by Van Zyl Botha, with the dream of connecting all South Africans to faster, more affordable internet. The company accelerated its vision when it consolidated over 40 owner-operated businesses which now fall under Herotel. This expansion strategy led Herotel to acquire businesses that specialize in software platforms, internet services, voice over internet protocol services, fibre and wireless services. “Over the last five years, Herotel has been quietly acquiring over 40 businesses, which until now remained trading under their original brands. We are currently re-launching and re-branding these companies under a single brand and we are rolling out a national strategy with the purpose of connecting everyone in SA.” said Botha in an interview with ITWeb.

The company realizes the importance of the internet and the type of change that it can bring when the majority of south Africans have access to it. The company has increased its coverage area as it now covers provinces such as KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga, Gauteng, North West, Western Cape and Limpopo. By acquiring these companies, Herotel shows that it is indeed determined to provide internet to all South Africans especially in the disadvantaged communities, as these acquisitions make it even more powerful with more resources at its disposal.

“Our current scale will allow us to play a meaningful role in correcting the connectivity imbalances that currently exist in South Africa, especially in remote areas. As we grow, we are open to further acquisitions that bring new geographic areas or fresh skills to the group.” Botha added in an interview with ITWeb.

Today Herotel is the largest fixed wireless internet service provider in South Africa with over 95 000 homes and business users connected to the internet across more than 400 towns and cities.
