Pick n Pay names new CEO as Richard Brasher retires

Pieter Boone is set to replace Richard Brasher as Pick n Pay’s CEO. Brasher retires after a successful eight-year tenure at the helm of the retail store.

The changes will take effect from the 21st of April 2021.

Boone has held various leadership positions at a German multinational company and comes with significant experience in emerging markets. He was also the COO of Metro AG, which sells food in multiple markets across the world, runs a logistics company and provides food to the hospitality sector.

Pick n Pay Chairman Gareth Ackerman said, “We are naturally sad to be announcing Richard’s departure, he has led a remarkable turnaround in our company and the Pick n Pay Group is immeasurable stronger now than when Richard took over in 2013. He has almost doubled Pick n Pay’s store network and has grown turnover from R55 billion when he joined the company to almost R90 billion.”

“As well as delivering consistent and sustainable profit growth, modernizing the Pick n Pay business, expanding our offer and transforming our efficiency, Richard has led the transformation of Boxer into Africa’s fastest- growing limited range discounter.’” He added.

Speaking on Boone’s appointment as CEO, Ackerman said, “His global retail experience across a number of diverse geographies will stand him in very good stead across all areas of the Pick n Pay business, including Boxer franchise, our growing online offer and our value added services.”
