Sizwe Nzima’s Plan To Change South Africa’s Public Health Care System

Sizwe Nzima’s Plan To Change South Africa’s Public Health Care System. Quality health care in South Africa is very expensive and any people cannot afford it. The health care system is divided into two, which is Private health care and Public health care. The majority of South Africans access health services through the public health system because they can’t afford the private health care system. Even though the public health care system caters for the majority of South Africans it is it still under financed as some areas do not have hospitals and those that do lack medicine and basic medical equipment.

Iyeza Health is a specialist health company that was founded by Sizwe Nzima in 2013 that is committed to changing the face of public health in South Africa. Its roots are in the health logistics sector where Nzima started delivering medicine to people using his bicycle; this helped ordinary South Africans to access chronic medical care they need to live a healthy and fulfilling life. The company aims to focus on high cost chronic medication for HIV, diabetic medication and drugs for treating cancer.

This company plans on supporting the health systems that currently exist which will strengthen and enhance the health programme’s sustainability over time in local communities. It also aims to ensure an easy integration across the health services system in terms of drug prescription, review, dispensing, provision and delivery which will include a fully tracked health logistics service that allows people to monitor the delivery of their medicines door to door. This is in line with the company’s vision of changing the South African public health system for the better in that they will be providing people who are in disadvantaged communities where there is probably no hospital or clinic that is close the community.

The company’s future plans include assisting people with diagnostic self testing at home thus it will provide a convenient channel for proactive and preventative screening and care. Today it is delivering much-needed medication to over 1000 people in Khayelitsha as well creating employment for the youth with basic skills.
