Rosebank Based Marble Restaurant Seeks To Preserve The South African Food Culture

Rosebank Based Marble Restaurant Seeks To Preserve The South African Food Culture. Situated in Keyes Art Mile, the growing art and food hub of Rosebank, Marble Restaurant boasts a grand wood-fired grill imported from Grill Works in Michigan as the focal point of the restaurant. The concept combines the open-fire trend, seen internationally, with an added pinch of true South African flair.

“Marble is a celebration of quintessential South African fare. It embodies South Africans’ love of cooking with fire, a quality that makes our food culture different from the rest of the world” said David Higgs , the Chef of Marble Restaurant on the company’s website.

The restaurant has long been fascinated by what makes South African cuisine unique, and it believes it’s down to being meat and flame enthusiasts. It is the timeworn ritual of cooking on wood fires and gathering with friends, the shared experience in the preparation. However, it is not just meat which it celebrates in this way, it boasts an array of fresh ingredients all cooked on its perfectly prepared coals including fish, poultry, vegetables and breads.

Marble Restaurant chose to collaborate with local artisans for all the interior design at Marble. Since it is located in the Keyes Art Mile, it made perfect sense to incorporate art in the interior installations. At Marble, art is expressed in every design element.

Marble offers Joburg diners something different – not just a plate of food, but a theatre of experience. Marble celebrates the quintessential South African tradition of cooking on fire – and not just meat, but all types of ingredients cooked on coals – including fish, poultry, vegetables and breads. The wine list has been painstakingly put together – it features 100 of the best local and some international wines. Diners can expect a great night out, with delicious food and top-notch service – and one of the best views of the city.

Its menu celebrates the very best of local produce, sourced from the country’s most respected farmers and artisans. Beyond meat, its coals inspire seafood, fish, poultry and fresh, earthy vegetable dishes, not to mention its tempting desserts. Each day a seasonal showstopper pays homage to the delicious diversity of cooking with fire. Awarded chef David Higgs’ quintessential South African fare, with his finishings, flavour and finesse, ensures that there is something for all good food lovers at Marble.
