Meet Tinny Nkuna: The Entrepreneur Restoring Dignity to South African Girls One Pad at a Time with Lindiwe Pads

When Tinny Nkuna founded Lindiwe Sanitary Pads, her mission was simple but profound: to restore dignity to women and girls across Africa. That mission has now been recognised on a national stage as Nkuna was crowned Jacaranda FM’s Her Perfect Pitch 2025 Champion, beating out hundreds of remarkable female entrepreneurs from across South Africa.

The award, which celebrates women who are reshaping the country’s business landscape, comes with R500,000 worth of advertising on Jacaranda FM, a six-week mentorship and brand acceleration programme, and access to strategic business support through partners like SPAR. For Nkuna, it’s more than a win — it’s validation of a purpose-driven enterprise that’s tackling one of South Africa’s most pressing issues: menstrual poverty.

Founded by Nkuna and proudly black-women-ownedLindiwe Sanitary Pads is a South African manufacturing company with a social mission at its heart. From its 3,000 sqm production facility, the company produces up to 1.5 million sanitary pads per month, using 65–75% locally sourced materials — a testament to its commitment to local empowerment, sustainability, and economic inclusion.

But Lindiwe is far more than a factory. It’s a movement.

“Our mission has always been about more than manufacturing,” says Nkuna. “It’s about restoring dignity, creating jobs for women, and making sure every girl can go to school without worrying about access to menstrual products.”

Through partnerships with retailers, NGOs, schools, clinics, and government departments, Lindiwe Sanitary Pads ensures that menstrual products reach both urban and rural communities, bridging the accessibility gap that continues to keep many girls out of classrooms.

Each pad produced by Lindiwe contributes to a broader ecosystem of empowerment — creating employment, nurturing entrepreneurship, and developing leadership among African women. Nkuna’s model of industrial innovation with social impact is fast becoming a blueprint for sustainable development in the personal care sector.

“Winning Her Perfect Pitch gives our brand the national visibility and support we need to expand our reach and continue making a difference,” Nkuna adds. “This is about building something that outlives us — a legacy of dignity and opportunity.”

The Her Perfect Pitch 2025 competition attracted over 927 business profiles and 220 completed entries from all nine provinces, spanning industries like agriculture, wellness, manufacturing, consulting, and design. Among these, Nkuna stood out for her clarity of purpose, scalability, and social impact.

Runners-up Prudence Mabaso (The Kitchen Wrap Company) and Trudy Mkansi (Ambesha Africa) also impressed judges with their innovation and resilience, reflecting the entrepreneurial diversity and drive of South African women.

“Tinny Nkuna and all our finalists embody resilience, creativity, and purpose-driven innovation,” says Vuyani Dombo, Managing Director at Jacaranda FM. “Her Perfect Pitch continues to uncover women who aren’t just running businesses — they’re transforming communities.”

Through Her Perfect Pitch, Jacaranda FM continues to amplify female founders who are building for change, proving that when women rise, communities thrive.

For Nkuna, this recognition marks not just a milestone, but momentum. “Every pad we make tells a story of hope,” she says. “This is only the beginning.”
