What inspired you to start Chiedza Jewellery Creations?

Chiedza Jewellery Creations was born from a passion for storytelling through metal and design. I wanted to create contemporary and statement pieces that celebrate African identity, individuality, and empowerment. The brand was inspired by a desire to merge traditional craftsmanship with modern aesthetics, giving light (chiedza) to unique stories through jewellery.

How would you describe your design philosophy?

My design philosophy revolves around bold simplicity. Each piece is intentionally crafted to make a statement while maintaining timeless elegance. I focus on creating designs that are versatile, empowering, and reflective of both cultural roots and modern sophistication.

What does it mean for you to showcase your work at The Jewellery Village?

Showcasing at The Jewellery Village is an incredible honour and milestone. Is the platform that celebrates creativity, craftsmanship, and innovation within our local jewellery industry. For me, it’s an opportunity to connect with a wider audience, share my story, and represent the excellence of South African designs.

How do you create balance between sophistication and accessibility in your pieces?

I achieve this balance by combining fine design principles with locally sourced materials like brass, copper, silver, and gold. My aim is to create pieces that exude luxury yet remain affordable and wearable for everyday confidence. Each design is thoughtfully crafted to appeal to both collectors and modern professionals seeking authenticity and elegance.

Who is the Chiedza Jewellery customer?

Chiedza Jewellery customers are confident, bold, and expressive. They are young urban professionals and trendsetters who appreciate craftsmanship and design with meaning. They value quality and authenticity jewellery that complements their individuality and ambition.

How does local craftsmanship influence your approach?

I believe in preserving and evolving traditional making techniques while empowering local artisans. Working with South African materials and talent allows me to create pieces that carry cultural depth and contribute to the growth of our creative economy.

What role do you think innovation plays in sustaining SMMEs in this space?

Innovation is essential for the survival and growth of SMMEs. It allows us to adapt to changing markets, explore new materials and technologies such as CAD design, and engage customers through digital platforms. For Chiedza Jewellery, innovation means continuously improving design processes and creating fresh, relevant collections that speak to contemporary lifestyles.

Rand Refinery’s mentorship has been transformative. It has strengthened my understanding of business operations, quality standards, and market positioning. Through their support, I’ve been able to refine production processes, build industry connections, and develop a more sustainable and growth-oriented business model.

What materials or techniques do you enjoy experimenting with?

I enjoy working with brass, silver and Gold for their versatility and warmth. I also love exploring surface textures, mixed metals, and natural stones that add a unique touch to each design. Recently, I’ve been integrating CAD design and 3D printing into my process, blending traditional handcrafting with modern technology.

What’s your long-term vision for Chiedza Jewellery Creations?

My long-term vision is to establish Chiedza Jewellery as a globally recognized African brand, rooted in craftsmanship, sustainability, and storytelling. I aim to expand internationally, collaborate with other designers, and create opportunities for young jewellers through training and mentorship initiatives.
