South African Creatives Invited to Define the Nation’s Presence at Venice Biennale 2026

South African Creatives Invited to Define the Nation’s Presence at Venice Biennale 2026. South Africa’s creative and entrepreneurial community has been given a rare opportunity to contribute to one of the world’s most prestigious art platforms, the Venice Biennale 2026. Art Periodic South Africa (A°P) has officially opened submissions for curatorial proposals, calling on curators, collectives, galleries, and creative organisations to help define the vision and presentation of the South African Pavilion.

This invitation marks a pivotal moment for South African entrepreneurs and innovators in the arts sector. The Pavilion not only showcases the country’s cultural excellence but also provides a platform for collaboration between business and creativity on a global scale. By participating, local entrepreneurs can contribute to developing a Pavilion that demonstrates the economic and social potential of South Africa’s creative industries.

The 61st edition of the Venice Biennale, set for 2026, will be curated by the late Koyo Kouoh, Executive Director and Chief Curator of Zeitz MOCAA, the first African-born woman to lead this global art event. Her legacy inspires this initiative to be inclusive, transparent, and reflective of Africa’s creative strength.

Art Periodic South Africa (A°P) stepped forward with an unsolicited proposal to manage and fundraise for the Pavilion, which has been formally accepted by the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture. In partnership with Latitudes Online as Media and Strategic Partner, A°P aims to unite creatives, businesses, and institutions to deliver a Pavilion that is proudly South African and globally resonant.

Submissions are open until 24 November 2025, and applicants can apply through www.artperiodic.co.za. For entrepreneurs and creatives alike, this is an opportunity to play a defining role in shaping how South Africa’s stories and innovations are represented to the world.
