R250 000 Boost Up for Grabs: Asset Assist Programme Reopens for SA Entrepreneurs

R250 000 Boost Up for Grabs: Asset Assist Programme Reopens for SA Entrepreneurs. South African entrepreneurs have a fresh opportunity to strengthen and scale their operations as the Department of Small Business Development (DSBD) re-launches the Asset Assist Programme, previously implemented through the Small Enterprise Development and Finance Agency (Sefa). The initiative is now open for applications, offering eligible Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) access to critical assets needed for business growth.

The programme provides support for machinery, equipment, working capital and the acquisition of raw materials, with a maximum grant of R250 000. Up to 20 percent of the total approved amount may be allocated specifically for raw materials and stock. According to the DSBD, this intervention aims to help businesses increase production capacity and improve long-term competitiveness.

The call for applications is open to South African-owned MSMEs that are fully registered with the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC) and are tax compliant. Sole proprietors with valid documentation also qualify. The programme, however, excludes co-operatives, businesses with a turnover above R1 million and MSMEs previously funded through Asset Assist.

Applicants must submit their documentation online through the dedicated portal at
https://systemsnew.sefa.org.za/SMMEPortal
before the closing deadline of 09 January 2026 at 23:59.

To apply, businesses must provide CIPC registration documents, a company profile, FICA documents for directors, proof of tax compliance, proof of address, and either financial statements or bank statements depending on whether the entity is a start-up or an existing business. Start-ups must submit their latest bank account information, while existing businesses must provide at least one month’s business bank statement. All employees must be legally permitted to work in South Africa, and any required work permits must be up to date.

Applicants must also include an itemised quotation outlining the machinery or assets they wish to acquire through the programme. The DSBD notes that applications may undergo physical verification to confirm business operations, and that funding will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis due to budget limitations.

Entrepreneurs who previously applied but did not receive support are encouraged to reapply, offering a renewed chance at securing essential business equipment.

For additional information or technical assistance, businesses may email servicedesk@sedfa.org.za.

This reopening marks a significant opportunity for South African MSMEs seeking to elevate their operational capacity and secure the tools needed for sustainable growth in 2026 and beyond.
