Ndabeni Calls for Stronger Support of Local Enterprises at 2026 Buy Local Summit. Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams has reinforced the importance of small businesses in South Africa’s economy during her keynote address at the 14th Proudly South African Buy Local Summit & Expo 2026, held at the Sandton Convention Centre.

Speaking on the second day of the summit, the Minister highlighted the critical role entrepreneurs play in sustaining communities and driving economic activity across the country. The event is being hosted under the theme “Localisation: A Critical Imperative to the Economy,” which focuses on strengthening domestic production and reducing reliance on external markets.

Ndabeni-Abrahams noted that small businesses continue to operate at the centre of economic life in South Africa. She pointed to the wide range of entrepreneurs, from spaza shop owners to farmers and artisans, who contribute to local economies by providing goods, services and employment opportunities.

According to the Minister, these enterprises are not only supporting livelihoods but are also addressing everyday challenges within communities. She emphasised that their role becomes even more important in the context of a changing and uncertain global economic environment.

During her address, Ndabeni-Abrahams reiterated government’s commitment to supporting small enterprises through policies and programmes aimed at creating a more enabling environment. She stated that localisation remains a key priority, with a focus on encouraging the production and consumption of locally made goods.

The summit itself serves as a platform to advance these objectives. It brings together a broad range of stakeholders, including government representatives, business leaders, financiers, innovators and entrepreneurs. Through exhibitions, panel discussions and business matchmaking sessions, the event is designed to create opportunities for emerging enterprises to access new markets.

Organisers of the Buy Local Summit & Expo have positioned the gathering as a space for collaboration and engagement across sectors. The event aims to connect smaller businesses with larger industry players while promoting the value of supporting local products and services.

Ndabeni-Abrahams’ address underscored the broader message of the summit, which centres on the need for collective action to strengthen the local economy. By supporting small businesses and encouraging localisation, stakeholders are working towards building a more resilient and inclusive economic landscape.

The 2026 edition of the summit continues to highlight the role of entrepreneurship as a key driver of growth, while reinforcing the importance of creating sustainable opportunities within South Africa’s local markets.
