Coronation Expands National Schools Investment Challenge With R120,000 Prize Pool

Coronation Expands National Schools Investment Challenge With R120,000 Prize Pool. Financial services company Coronation has opened entries for the second edition of its Top Investor Challenge: Schools Edition, offering high school learners across South Africa an opportunity to explore investing through a virtual competition while competing for prizes worth R120,000.

The challenge is open to all high school learners in the country and is designed to introduce young people to financial literacy and investment concepts in an interactive way. According to Coronation, the initiative aims to help learners build confidence around money management and expose them to possible careers in investment management.

Kirshni Totaram, Global Head of Institutional Business at Coronation, said the programme is intended to broaden access to financial knowledge and opportunities for young people.

The challenge works through a virtual investing simulation that learners can access on a phone, tablet, or computer. Participants compete in teams of between two and five members and receive a virtual sum of money to invest during the game.

Throughout the competition, learners are presented with video-based future world scenarios and must decide how to allocate their virtual investments based on the information provided. The team whose portfolio records the strongest growth by the end of the challenge will be named the winner.

The competition is free to enter and there is no limit to the number of teams a school may register. Coronation said the challenge has been structured to fit around school schedules, allowing learners to participate at their own pace between 1 June and 31 July 2026.

No prior investing experience is required. The programme introduces participants to economic, financial, and investing concepts through practical decision-making exercises while also encouraging teamwork and problem-solving skills.

The top-performing team nationally will receive R60,000 in Coronation investment vouchers, divided equally among team members. The winning school will also receive R60,000.

Coronation said the challenge could also help learners strengthen their CVs by demonstrating initiative, collaboration, and an interest in financial decision-making.

Schools, parents, and learners can register and find more information on the official Top Investor Challenge website: Top Investor Challenge website
