100,000 Paid Youth Service Roles Open as NYDA Expands National Youth Service Programme

100,000 Paid Youth Service Roles Open as NYDA Expands National Youth Service Programme. The National Youth Service Programme has entered Phase V with the launch of 100,000 paid service opportunities for unemployed young people across South Africa’s nine provinces.

Announced by the National Youth Development Agency in partnership with the Presidential Youth Employment Intervention, the expanded programme is aimed at providing structured pathways into work experience, skills development, civic participation and longer-term economic inclusion.

The initiative is designed to combine community-based service with practical workplace exposure, allowing participants to contribute to local development projects while gaining experience intended to improve employability and access to future opportunities.

According to NYDA board executive chairperson Dr Sunshine Myende, the programme forms part of a broader national effort to address youth unemployment through structured engagement and skills transfer.

Myende said the programme is intended to create opportunities that allow young people to contribute directly to their communities while also building competencies that support future employment, education or entrepreneurship pathways.

The NYDA stated that Phase V of the programme continues its focus on inclusion, with priority given to ensuring access for young people from historically marginalised communities, including persons with disabilities, LGBTQIA+ youth, and those in rural and underserved areas.

Participants will be placed in service opportunities that combine civic engagement with practical learning, including exposure to work environments and structured skills development initiatives.

The organisation said the programme is part of a wider government approach to tackling youth unemployment by creating scalable, structured interventions that connect young people to both skills development and work experience opportunities.

The National Youth Service Programme is also aligned with broader efforts under the Presidential Youth Employment Intervention to strengthen pathways into sustainable livelihoods through coordinated public and private sector initiatives.

Further details on eligibility criteria, application processes and timelines will be communicated through official channels managed by the NYDA.

Young people interested in participating in the programme are encouraged to register and apply via the official platform: SAYouth.mobi
