Vumela Fund Invests R20m in Breaze Delivery to Support Expansion

Vumela Fund Invests R20m in Breaze Delivery to Support Expansion. The Vumela Enterprise Development Fund has invested R20 million in Breaze Delivery, marking a new phase of expansion for the technology-driven delivery business as it scales its operations across South Africa.
The investment is aimed at supporting the company’s growth strategy, which includes expanding its technology platform, growing its driver network and extending its geographic footprint to meet increasing demand from small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) customers and retail partners.
The funding forms part of Vumela’s broader mandate to support high-growth SMEs that address structural inefficiencies in the South African economy through scalable and technology-enabled solutions.
According to Mike Sage, the investment reflects the fund’s focus on businesses capable of delivering measurable economic impact through efficiency improvements, job creation and SME enablement.
He noted that Breaze Delivery aligns with the type of technology-led businesses the fund is designed to support, particularly those operating in fast-growing and increasingly digital sectors.
Supporting the “missing middle” of SME funding
The Vumela Enterprise Development Fund is a long-standing partnership between FNB and business development specialist Edge Growth. It was created to support the “missing middle” segment of small businesses that are too large for early-stage funding but not yet ready for traditional institutional investment.
Over the past 15 years, the fund has deployed more than R580 million in growth capital across South African SMEs, combining funding with operational support, mentorship and business diagnostics to improve long-term sustainability.
Breaze Delivery’s expansion strategy
Founded in 2021 by entrepreneurs Avi Maja and Braden Snyman, Breaze Delivery provides on-demand and same-day delivery services tailored to SME clients.
The platform uses a flexible driver network supported by live tracking technology to provide logistics solutions aimed at strengthening supply chain efficiency and enabling faster fulfilment for businesses operating in the e-commerce and retail sectors.
According to Edge Growth associate principal Jessica Blake, the company stood out during the evaluation process due to the strength of its leadership and its positioning within South Africa’s growing e-commerce market.
She noted that businesses such as Breaze Delivery play an important role in creating employment opportunities and contributing to broader economic development through scalable logistics solutions.
Ecosystem support beyond funding
In addition to capital investment, Breaze Delivery will gain access to Vumela’s broader ecosystem, which includes strategic mentorship, operational support and ongoing business diagnostics provided by Edge Growth.
Co-founder Braden Snyman said the partnership will support the company’s goal of building modern delivery infrastructure for South Africa’s SME economy.
