African Tech Startups Invited to Compete for Global KPMG Innovation Crown

African Tech Startups Invited to Compete for Global KPMG Innovation Crown. Technology startups from South Africa and across the African continent have been invited to apply for the 2026 KPMG Private Enterprise Global Tech Innovator competition, offering entrepreneurs the opportunity to showcase their innovations on an international stage and compete for a global title in Lisbon, Portugal.

Applications are open to eligible startups and scale-ups from 13 KPMG One Africa member countries spanning Southern, East and West Africa. The application deadline is 2 August 2026, after which successful entrants will progress through national and regional rounds before advancing to the global finals in Portugal later this year.

Now in its sixth year, the competition is designed to recognise emerging technology businesses that are developing innovative solutions with strong commercial potential. According to KPMG, participants will be evaluated by a panel of industry experts across five key areas: innovation, entrepreneurial capability, growth potential, customer focus and risk awareness.

The programme provides more than a pitching platform. KPMG said the initiative is intended to connect promising technology companies with investors, business leaders and potential strategic partners while raising the global profile of African innovation.

Sandeep Main, Africa Head of Private Enterprise at KPMG, said the continent continues to produce entrepreneurs who are tackling complex challenges through technology.

“Africa continues to produce remarkable entrepreneurs who are solving complex challenges through innovation and technology. The Global Tech Innovator competition provides these businesses with a unique opportunity to showcase their solutions, build valuable connections, and gain exposure to investors, industry leaders and potential partners on a global stage,” he said.

The competition is aimed at businesses that have moved beyond the early startup phase and can demonstrate market traction alongside the potential to scale internationally. Eligible businesses must be registered in one of the participating countries, have been operating for seven years or less, meet the programme’s revenue or funding requirements, and operate as a technology, tech-enabled or tech-driven business. They must also not be majority-owned by a large corporate.

Finalists from each participating country or region will present their businesses during the global competition in Lisbon, where they will compete alongside technology innovators from around the world.
