FNB and Boxer Deepen Partnership to Expand Everyday Savings for South African Shoppers

FNB and Boxer Deepen Partnership to Expand Everyday Savings for South African Shoppers. FNB and Boxer have expanded their strategic partnership following the early success of their 99c bread initiative, with both organisations planning to introduce additional rewards and value-driven offerings aimed at helping South African households manage rising living costs.

The enhanced collaboration builds on a campaign launched a month ago that provides qualifying customers with access to discounted bread. According to the partners, the initiative has generated strong customer interest and is encouraging them to broaden their joint efforts to deliver practical savings and financial solutions.

More than 220,000 bread vouchers have been issued since the programme was introduced, representing over R2.2 million in value made available to customers. To date, shoppers have redeemed R73,650 in savings, while vouchers remain valid for 31 days, allowing additional time for customers to make use of the benefit.

The 99c bread campaign follows FNB’s affordable bread programme launched with Pick n Pay in 2024. Since then, more than 7.7 million bread vouchers have been distributed, with a combined value exceeding R77 million. FNB said redemption rates have tripled over the past 18 months, reflecting growing demand for initiatives that help consumers reduce the cost of everyday essentials.

FNB Chief Executive Officer Lytania Johnson said the expanded partnership reflects the bank’s focus on providing practical support that addresses the financial challenges many South Africans face.

She said customers continue to make difficult decisions about how to manage their monthly budgets, adding that the partnership was developed in response to those realities by offering assistance where consumers are making daily purchasing decisions.

The collaboration also aligns with FNB’s broader strategy of combining banking services, rewards programmes and retail partnerships to create greater value for customers beyond traditional banking.

For Boxer, the retailer’s nationwide footprint, particularly in rural and semi-rural communities, provides an opportunity to make savings initiatives more accessible to households across the country.

Boxer Chief Executive Officer Marek Masojada said customers are looking for brands that deliver meaningful value rather than low prices alone. He said combining Boxer’s community presence with FNB’s financial expertise allows the two organisations to introduce practical solutions that benefit shoppers.

Looking ahead, both companies intend to roll out additional rewards opportunities and customer benefits designed to help households better manage everyday expenses.

Christelle Pretorius, Chief Operating Officer for FNB’s Retail and Business segment, said the partnership reflects a customer-focused approach that brings together financial services and retail in ways that support people’s everyday priorities.

The expanded partnership signals a continued effort by both organisations to integrate banking, rewards and retail offerings while helping consumers stretch their budgets through practical savings and enhanced access to everyday value.
