Mr.DIY Expands into Mpumalanga as South African Store Network Grows

Mr.DIY Expands into Mpumalanga as South African Store Network Grows. Mr.DIY is expanding its presence in South Africa with new stores in KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga, while increasing its focus on local suppliers and South African businesses.

The retailer will open a new store at Saxony Westwood in KwaZulu-Natal on 14 August 2026. Five days later, on 19 August, it will open its first store in Mpumalanga at Highveld Mall.

The openings form part of Mr.DIY’s wider expansion strategy as the retailer works towards increasing its presence across South Africa.

“Every new store gives more people the opportunity to experience Mr.DIY,” said Lara-lee De Jager, imports manager at Mr.DIY. “We are widening our footprint and working towards becoming a household name across the country.”

Alongside its store expansion, Mr.DIY is developing its network of local suppliers. The retailer currently sources 12% of its South African range locally and has an ambition to increase this to 20%.

Mr.DIY works with 46 local suppliers across 11 departments. The retailer said potential suppliers are assessed on factors including product quality, their ability to meet demand at scale and experience in supplying retail chains. Sourcing and sustainability practices and the potential for long-term commercial relationships are also considered.

“We want local suppliers in every category across Mr.DIY,” said Khumo Mabe, procurement specialist at Mr.DIY.

The retailer combines locally sourced products with imported products developed specifically for its stores, including products carrying the Mr.DIY brand. It said the two sourcing approaches complement each other.

Customer demand also influences the products selected for its stores. Mr.DIY’s procurement team considers sales data, retail market trends, feedback from store teams and customer requests shared through social media.

The retailer said quality and compliance processes are applied across its sourcing operations. Its imports team works with suppliers and global procurement teams to assess products against applicable quality, safety and regulatory requirements.

The opening at Highveld Mall will mark Mr.DIY’s first store in Mpumalanga. Nicola Blake, marketing manager at Highveld Mall, said the retailer’s arrival would give shoppers access to its range of household, hardware and lifestyle products.
