Stitch Launches PayShap Request to Expand Real-Time Payments Across South Africa

Stitch Launches PayShap Request to Expand Real-Time Payments Across South Africa. South African payments infrastructure company Stitch has expanded its real-time payments offering with the launch of PayShap Request for enterprise businesses.

The service allows companies to collect payments across all major South African banks while providing near-instant settlement. Stitch said the offering responds to growing demand from businesses for faster and reliable payment infrastructure.

PayShap Request is built on PayInc’s rapid payments infrastructure. It allows businesses to send a payment request directly to a customer’s banking app, where the customer can review and approve the transaction.

The process does not require customers to be redirected to internet banking or manually enter account details.

Stitch currently supports PayShap Request across all major South African banks on the issuing side, allowing customers with PayShap-enabled accounts to approve and complete payment requests initiated through its platform.

The company said its infrastructure uses a multi-acquirer architecture, with active connections to multiple acquiring banks rather than relying on a single acquiring relationship.

This setup is designed to provide redundancy when an acquiring bank experiences downtime or processing issues. Stitch’s orchestration layer can also route transactions based on real-time availability, performance and success rates.

For enterprise businesses, the service provides access to multiple acquiring bank relationships through a single API. This means businesses do not need to manage separate integrations, contracts or reconciliation processes for each acquiring bank.

Junaid Dadan, president at Stitch, said the launch represented a step forward for real-time payments in South Africa.

“We’ve built our infrastructure to give businesses the most reliable access to these rails, with multiple acquiring banks and intelligent routing that keeps transactions flowing even when individual banks experience issues,” said Dadan.

PayShap Request is available through the same Stitch API used for Pay by bank, Capitec Pay, Visa and Mastercard cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Wallet and Pay Later.

Businesses already integrated with Stitch can access PayShap Request without developing a separate integration.

Stitch said it is one of South Africa’s largest payments service providers and has raised $107 million in total funding to date. This includes a $55 million Series B funding round announced in April 2025.

The launch adds PayShap Request to Stitch’s existing payment infrastructure as the company expands access to real-time payment capabilities for enterprise businesses in South Africa.
