Zaio Aims To Create Employment Through Digital Solutions

Zaio Aims To Create Employment Through Digital Solutions. Zaio was founded by 21-year-old Mvelo Hlophe, who is a final-year BCom Politics, Philosophy and Economics student at UCT, and his friend, Thandolwethu Hlongwane. Hlophe originally came up with the idea, and then approached Hlongwane, who was looking for a developer internship, but couldn’t find one.

Having grown up in a society where there is endless talent but opportunities having been unequally distributed, Zaio was created to democratise access to these opportunities. At the core of the organisation, it is believed that if this untapped talent is given just a chance at unlocking its potential, the world will be even better than it is today. The company believes so much in realising this world one day that it gives itself a constant reminder in its name. “Zaio is adapted from the Nguni word ‘Okuzayo’ which means the future.

“We met on a university campus and although we came from different areas of the African continent, namely Kenya, Malawi and South Africa, we were brought together through a shared vision; to cultivate leaders that will drive the future of continental and global innovation. We want to share this vision with the world. As we have evolved as individuals and as a company, we have remained true to this. It is our mission to help others reach their full potential through education and help organisations get the best out of their people. Collectively, we can create the future we want to live in.” the company said on its website.

Once registered on the platform, students go through four levels of training: from an introduction to the various elements of coding and web development, to practical tasks where they get to work on real-life projects at South African companies. “This is perfect for people looking for employment as well as those looking to up skill themselves and become software developers,” Hlophe told Business Insider.
