SA Entrepreneur Desré Ferreira Shares The Added Value Of Stud Breeding

SA Entrepreneur Desré Ferreira Shares The Added Value Of Stud Breeding. In an interview with Farmer’s Weekly, South African farmer Desré Ferreira shared the added value of Stud Breeding. The farmer believes that Stud Breeding offers more returns on the investment made, hence she is also educating other farmers about it.

She said, “I had to generate an income for myself and decided on stud breeding because of the added value this type of farming business offers. It costs virtually the same to raise a commercial animal as a stud animal, but the return on investment is higher. And that’s the objective of my mentoring programme: I want to help the breeders in my group become commercial goat breeders and eventually even stud breeders.”

Ferreira continued to say, “The proper management of a goat flock is an intricate affair, and breeders need leadership and information to manage their herds cost-effectively in the long term. This calls for a multidimensional approach that covers all aspects of practical goat breeding, from animal husbandry and health to nutrition and economics.”

Ferreira was able to discover the type of farming that would be suitable for her and she made sure that she researches on where the industry is headed. She now knows that the industry is very lucrative if one is provided with the right information of managing a farm in this niche market. Ferreira does not only want to be the only to benefit from this as she decided to mentor young farming entrepreneurs and help them get to a stage where their business is profitable.

She started off with mentoring 50 entrepreneurs and now she has managed to assist 150 entrepreneurs with their farming business. She offers knowledge such as knowing that one can not do this by themselves so they should gather a team of experts to help them so that their business can become sustainable.
