Red Bull Basement 2026 Opens Applications for South African Innovators

Red Bull Basement 2026 Opens Applications for South African Innovators. Applications have officially opened for Red Bull Basement 2026, a global innovation programme offering South African participants the opportunity to develop early-stage ideas into working products, with equity-free funding exceeding R2 million available at a global level.
The programme is open to students and first-time founders and does not require applicants to have a prototype, technical qualification, or previous entrepreneurial experience. Participants receive access to AI-powered tools, mentorship, and development resources designed to support idea refinement and product development.
Red Bull Basement operates as a global incubator in partnership with Microsoft and AMD. As part of the programme, South Africa will select a national winner who will represent the country at the Red Bull Basement World Final in Silicon Valley, United States. At the World Final, teams compete for US$100,000, approximately R1.6 million, in equity-free funding while retaining full ownership of their ideas.
Additional support provided to participants includes Microsoft Azure and Replit AI credits, as well as mentorship from Red Bull Ventures. South Africa’s most recent national winners, Ndzilo Fire Solution, represented the country at the 2024 World Final with an AI-powered wildfire detection system.
Paul Malinda, a member of the 2024 South African winning team, said the programme offered more than just a competitive experience. He explained that Red Bull Basement created a platform where teams from different regions could exchange perspectives on global challenges, with connections formed during the programme continuing beyond the event.
The programme begins with an online application phase, where individuals or two-person teams submit an idea. Selected teams advance through local judging and video pitching before finalists develop a basic prototype and present it to a panel of industry representatives. One team is then chosen to represent South Africa internationally.
The programme is open to South African residents aged 18 and older, with ideas welcomed across sectors such as artificial intelligence, sustainability, education, healthcare, and agriculture.
