Allan Gray Makers Startup Academy 2026 Opens Doors for Young Artisan Entrepreneurs

Allan Gray Makers Startup Academy 2026 Opens Doors for Young Artisan Entrepreneurs. Applications are now open for the Allan Gray Makers Startup Academy 2026, an eight month incubation programme aimed at supporting aspiring artisan entrepreneurs in South Africa.
The initiative focuses on four core trades: bricklaying, carpentry, electrical, and plumbing. It is structured to combine entrepreneurship training with practical guidance to help participants move from technical skill into business ownership.
The programme is open to individuals aged between 18 and 35, who are unemployed or self employed and not studying full time. Applicants must demonstrate experience in one of the listed trades.
Eligibility includes holding a recognised trade test, or having at least three years of relevant work experience and being ready to take a trade test. Candidates with an N2 Certificate and three years of work experience may also apply.
Required documents include a trade test certificate, an N2 Certificate or National Technical Diploma where applicable, proof of work experience such as service letters, and a certified copy of an identity document. A National Senior Certificate is considered advantageous.
Applicants must complete the process online and need access to a working email address. Those without one are advised to create an email account before starting their submission. The official application page is https://allangraymakers.co.za/startup-academy/.
After the closing date, shortlisted candidates will be contacted to attend an interview. These discussions will explore each person’s background, motivation, and entrepreneurial goals. The process will also assess problem solving ability, interpersonal skills, and overall entrepreneurial mindset.
Participants selected for the academy will begin the eight month incubation programme in mid April 2026. During this period, they will receive structured entrepreneurship training along with comprehensive support designed for artisans starting new businesses.
The Allan Gray Makers Startup Academy positions itself as a pathway for skilled tradespeople who want to formalise their services and operate independent enterprises. The focus remains on building practical business foundations alongside existing technical expertise.
Applications for the 2026 intake opened on 3 November and will close on 30 January 2026 at 17:00. Prospective candidates are encouraged to review all requirements carefully and ensure their documents are ready before submitting the online form.
Only completed applications submitted before the deadline will be considered. Further details about the programme structure and expectations are available on the application website. The academy emphasises preparation, commitment, and a strong interest in entrepreneurship within trades.
