Old Mutual Announces Its Partnership With Primestars And The YouthStart Foundation

Old Mutual Announces Its Partnership With Primestars And The YouthStart Foundation. Old Mutual has once again partnered with Primestars and the YouthStart Foundation on the What About the Boys programme, to teach young boys and men, particularly those living in rural and peri-urban areas, to take responsibility at a very personal level for the protection of the women and children of this country.

Last year’s What about the Boys? initiative positively impacted over 15 000 boys, and Old Mutual is proud to continue to take a stand against Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF), by focusing on some of the root causes of GBVF. Primestars is a 13-year young majority black women owned education organisation that utilises Ster Kinekor cinemas as Theatres of Learning run programmes in Career Guidance, Entrepreneurship, Financial Literacy and Matric Math & Science to support high school learners from under-resourced communities.

In 2022, Old Mutual extended its GBVF Programme and collaborated with the creative industry, civil society organisations, traditional leaders, and government, to intentionally target boys and young men through culture, sport, and mental wellness initiatives. Old Mutual’s approach is preventative and trauma-informed, designed to build self-esteem and discourage toxic masculinity, so that the boys and young men do not become the next perpetrators.

Khotso Tsotsotso, Acting Head, Old Mutual Foundation and Social Investments said, “To promote a society that is caring, in which the human rights of its citizens are protected, it is important that through our Foundation, Old Mutual supports initiatives that address issues associated with Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF). Not only does this fulfil the organisation’s mission to collectively work with other stakeholders to eradicate GBVF, but it also supports one of the strategic focus areas of the organisation, which is: Old Mutual Cares.”
