Dell Expands SME Support and Skills Development Initiatives in South Africa

Dell Expands SME Support and Skills Development Initiatives in South Africa. Dell Technologies has outlined its ongoing efforts to support small and medium enterprises and expand access to skills development in South Africa, with a focus on Black-owned and Black women-owned businesses.
The company’s enterprise and supplier development programmes are designed to strengthen SMEs operating within the information and communications technology sector. These initiatives aim to improve both operational and financial capacity through a combination of infrastructure support, training and funding.
According to Natasha Reuben, head of transformation at Dell Technologies South Africa, the programme is structured to assist qualifying businesses in building sustainable operations. She noted that the support is targeted at enterprises that demonstrate potential for growth within the ICT space.
To qualify, businesses must meet specific requirements. These include majority Black ownership, a minimum of two years in operation and the submission of relevant compliance documentation such as a valid B-BBEE certificate or affidavit. Applicants are also required to undergo an audit process and participate in interview stages as part of the selection process.
Beyond direct SME support, Dell Technologies has also introduced broader development initiatives aimed at increasing access to education and technology. One of these is the Development Fund Programme, which focuses on creating opportunities for students and institutions within the technology sector.
The company reports that its efforts include partnerships with universities, through which more than 50 scholarships are funded annually for students pursuing information technology studies. This forms part of a wider strategy to build a pipeline of skilled professionals for the industry.
In addition, Dell Technologies supports several organisations involved in education and youth development. These include the Sci-Bono Discovery Centre, Christel House, the Students’ Health and Welfare Centres Organisation and Code for Change.
The company states that these combined initiatives are part of its broader commitment to promoting entrepreneurship, advancing skills development and improving access to technology across South Africa.
Through targeted support for SMEs and investment in education, Dell Technologies continues to position itself as a participant in the country’s efforts to strengthen its digital economy and create opportunities within the ICT sector.
