Naspers Shuts Down Classifieds Platform OLX In South Africa. It has been reported that Naspers has shut down OLX a Dutch classifieds platform. The platform was found to not be working when users tried to enter the site, they got a prompt message that said, “OLX South Africa is no longer available But not to worry, We can still help you find your new car or property”.

The company is choosing to put all its efforts and focus on its other platforms which are Auto Trader and Property 24. Sjoerd Nikkelen, OLX Group GM for Asia, Middle East and Africa told My Broadband that, “This [decision] is ultimately an indication of the progress we have made in South Africa over recent years and symbolic of how we as OLX Group continue to adjust ourselves. A few moments ago, we discontinued our OLX horizontal classifieds platform in South Africa, as we focus our customer proposition fully on our strong property and autos verticals in the country — Property24 and AutoTrader,”

OLX Group is a Dutch online marketplace headquartered in Amsterdam. The OLX consumer brand originated as OnLine eXchange in 2006. OLX Group is owned by Prosus, the international assets division of Naspers. Naspers acquired a majority ownership in OLX in 2010, as part of its classifieds division. Naspers increased its ownership share of OLX to 95% of the company in 2014. As of 2021, OLX Group operated around 20 brands in around 30 countries. Among them were 321Sprzedane!, Autotrader, Autovit.ro, Avito, Domofond.ru, fixly, Imovirtual, letgo, OLX, OLX Autos, OLX Brasil, Otodom, Otomoto, Properati, Property24, Selency, Standvirtual, Tradus, Waah Jobs, and webuyanycar.com.

Naspers Limited is a South African multinational holding company headquartered in Cape Town, with interests in publishing, online retail and venture capital investment. Naspers’ principal shareholder is its Dutch listed investment subsidiary Prosus, which owns approximately 49% of its parent as part of a cross ownership structure.
