Checkers Outlines Plans Of Expanding Its Network Of Petshop Science Stores

Checkers Outlines Plans Of Expanding Its Network Of Petshop Science Stores. Checkers SA has announced that it seeks to expand its network of Petshop Science Stores as the South African pet economy grows.

Checkers was the first South African supermarket to launch a pet shop and it has now opened its 10th Petshop Science store in just seven months and we’re planning to have12 standalone stores by the end of 2022. This follows the recent openings of the first standalone Checkers Little Me baby store, the smaller format Checkers Foods store as well as the new MediRite Plus. Last year Checkers launched the cheapest pet insurance product in South Africa amidst the country’s booming pet economy with increased pet ownership and Millennials replacing babies with fur babies.

“We saw a gap in the market when it came to pet care and following the great customer response to the first Petshop Science, we’ve been hard at work rolling out more specialist pet shops. Our aim has always been to bring customers everything their four-legged companions could want and need – at supermarket prices.” Willem Hunlun, said in a statement.

The tenth Petshop Science store opened in Eden Meander in George on 6 December, with two more stores opened in the Western Cape (Table Bay Mall in Sunningdale) and KwaZulu-Natal (St Johns Centre in Pinetown) in mid-December. Checkers seeks to take advantage of this growing economy that most supermarkets haven’t tapped in. This will allow Checkers to be able to be the leaders in the economy and therefore gain competitive advantage over its competitors.

By opening up these pet stores in Checkers supermarkets, the company is making it very convenient for customers to easily find what they are looking for without having to go to a standalone pet shop. By providing this convenience, the Petshop Science brand is creating a loyal customers base that will stick with them for the next years to come.
