Vodacom and Starlink Unite to Deliver High-Speed Broadband Across Africa

Vodacom and Starlink Unite to Deliver High-Speed Broadband Across Africa. Vodacom Group has announced a landmark partnership with Starlink, the world’s largest satellite broadband provider, in a move set to transform digital connectivity across Africa. The agreement aims to bring high-speed, low-latency internet to millions of people and businesses, extending network coverage into some of the continent’s most remote areas.

The collaboration represents a major step toward bridging Africa’s digital divide and unlocking opportunities for inclusive economic growth, innovation, and education. By integrating Starlink’s satellite backhaul into Vodacom’s mobile network, the partnership will accelerate the expansion of reliable broadband infrastructure to regions where traditional terrestrial networks remain limited or unfeasible.

Connecting the Unconnected

Through the partnership, Vodacom and Starlink will deliver robust connectivity to underserved communities, schools, health centres, and small enterprises. The integration of satellite technology will enhance Vodacom’s existing 4G, 5G, fibre, microwave, and GEO satellite services, ensuring seamless connectivity across diverse terrains.

Vodacom will also become an authorized reseller of Starlink equipment and services for enterprise and small business customers in Africa. This arrangement allows Vodacom to design locally relevant and affordable broadband solutions that address the specific needs of African consumers and industries.

Empowering Businesses and Industries

The collaboration will introduce a range of innovative products tailored for key sectors such as mining, oil and gas, agriculture, retail, financial services, and tourism. These offerings include pay-as-you-use backup internet, unbreakable connectivity, branch network pooling, and device-as-a-service models. By combining terrestrial and space-based technologies, Vodacom aims to strengthen business continuity and productivity for enterprises of all sizes.

A Strategic Step Toward Vision 2030

The partnership aligns with Vodacom’s Vision 2030 strategy, which targets expanding its customer base to 260 million users and increasing financial services subscribers to 120 million within five years. Leveraging Starlink’s satellite network as a complementary layer will help Vodacom move closer to universal broadband access across its markets.

Vodacom Group Chief Executive Officer Shameel Joosub said the collaboration underscores the company’s long-term mission to connect everyone on the continent. “We are delighted to collaborate with Starlink, a move that accelerates our mission to connect every African to the internet. Low Earth orbit satellite technology will help bridge the digital divide where traditional infrastructure is not feasible, and this partnership will unlock new possibilities for the unconnected,” he said.

Chad Gibbs, Vice President of Starlink Operations at SpaceX, added that the partnership builds on Starlink’s growing footprint across Africa. “Starlink is already serving people, businesses, and organizations in 25 African countries. By collaborating with Vodacom, we can deliver reliable, high-speed connectivity to even more customers, transforming lives and communities across the continent,” he said.

This agreement not only strengthens Vodacom’s leadership in the African telecommunications landscape but also marks a defining moment in Africa’s journey toward digital inclusivity and innovation-driven growth.
