Droppa Wins Best Enterprise Solution: Interview With Fhumu Davhana

Droppa Wins Best Enterprise Solution: Interview With Fhumu Davhana. Fhumu Davhana, representing Droppa, discusses the evolution of the company from a simple on-demand vehicle service to a full-scale B2B logistics platform. The platform provides businesses with on-demand vehicle access, real-time tracking, proof-of-delivery, and API integration to support scalable operations. In this interview, Davhana explains how Droppa addresses inefficiencies in the South African logistics sector, the role of AI in fleet management and route optimization, challenges faced when scaling, and the company’s approach to ensuring service reliability. The conversation also covers Droppa’s recognition at the 2025 FNB App of the Year Awards, where it won Best Enterprise Solution, and insights into the future of enterprise logistics. Read all about it below!

1. Droppa has become a key logistics partner for many businesses — what problem were you solving at launch?

We started as an “Uber for bakkies,” giving people an easy way to request a vehicle, see real-time tracking, and get transparent pricing. That level of visibility didn’t exist in courier services at the time.

As we grew, we realised the same problem existed for businesses — but on a much bigger scale. Companies needed reliable, consistent logistics support, and that’s what pushed us to evolve into a full B2B solution.

2. How has the business logistics space evolved, and how has Droppa stayed ahead?

Businesses now expect the same speed and transparency they get from e-hailing apps. Deliveries need to be tracked in real time, and capacity must be available on demand.

Droppa kept ahead by building the technology, integrating with various logistics companies which helped us build a national driver network needed to support these expectations.

3. What enterprise features have proven most valuable to your clients?

They rely heavily on live tracking, proof-of-delivery, and the ability to scale up their deliveries instantly through our Owner-Driver network.

Many also use our API integrations to link Droppa directly to their systems, making their operations faster and more seamless.

4. How does Droppa optimise route, cost, or delivery efficiencies for businesses?

Our technology automatically matches the right vehicle to the job and finds the most efficient routes. This reduces wasted mileage, lowers fuel use, and speeds up deliveries. It’s the same logic behind e-hailing — just customised for business deliveries.

5. What industries have shown the fastest adoption of your platform?

Retail, e-commerce, healthcare distribution, ICT hardware suppliers, and financial services have shown rapid adoption.

Their operations demand precision, compliance, and the ability to scale capacity without compromising visibility—requirements perfectly aligned with our enterprise pivot.

6. How is AI being used in your platform, especially for scheduling or fleet management?

AI helps us predict busy times, allocate the right drivers, and plan efficient routes. It also alerts us to potential delays so that we can act before service levels are affected. This keeps deliveries fast, consistent, and reliable.

7. What challenges did you face when scaling an enterprise-focused app in South Africa?

Logistics in South Africa is a very traditional industry with high barriers to entry. It’s capital-intensive, dominated by long-standing players, and undergoing major consolidation — Value and RTT, DPD and Fast + Furious, DP World with Imperial, etc.

We had to invest heavily in compliance, national coverage, and strong operational controls before enterprise clients would shift from established incumbents to an emerging player like Droppa.

Those challenges ultimately shaped the disciplined, enterprise-ready platform we run today.

8. How do you ensure the reliability and trustworthiness of service providers on Droppa?

All drivers go through strict verification and ongoing performance checks.
We monitor delivery behaviour, punctuality, and customer feedback in real time.

We also hold monthly conformance meetings with all our courier partners to review performance, quality trends, and service improvements.
Only drivers who consistently meet our standards stay active on the platform.

9. What does winning the Best Enterprise Solution category mean for Droppa?

It’s a milestone for us. The award recognises how far we’ve come — from a simple on-demand idea to a national logistics platform used by leading businesses. It validates our belief that South African technology can solve real, everyday problems at scale.

10. Where do you see enterprise logistics innovation headed in the next 3–5 years?

We expect logistics to become even more automated and data driven. Businesses will rely on real-time visibility, smarter routing, and seamless integration between different delivery partners.

We’re preparing for a future where AI plays a central role in decision-making and where logistics becomes more connected and efficient than ever.
