South African Startup Awards Spotlight 2025’s Leading Early-Stage Innovators. South Africa’s most promising early-stage technology ventures were recognised on 10 December when the winners of the third annual South African Startup Awards were announced at the Mount Nelson Hotel in Cape Town. The awards are hosted by Startup Club ZA and are aimed at highlighting emerging tech-driven businesses across the country.
The 2025 edition attracted strong participation, with 221 entries submitted and 44 startups selected as finalists. Winners were determined through a combination of 4,121 verified public votes and assessments by a panel of 28 expert judges. The awards feature 12 categories designed to reflect the breadth of innovation within South Africa’s startup ecosystem.
Startup Club ZA stated that the awards exist to fairly, independently and credibly recognise leading early-stage technology startups while showcasing the innovation and potential of South African founders on a global stage. In addition to hosting the annual awards, Startup Club ZA convenes monthly events and is described as the country’s largest tech startup and investor community.
In the AI and Big Data category, Nineteen58 was recognised for building omnichannel AI agents focused on customer service and business growth. Climate and Sustainability honours went to Still Good, a platform connecting consumers with local businesses to rescue unsold food at discounted prices.
Dream Drive won the Consumertech category for its skills-based competition platform aimed at enabling car ownership, while MariHealth Solutions took the Deeptech award for its biotechnology applications in sustainable aquaculture. In Digital Commerce, Skubu was recognised for its fully automated refill retail store offering packaging-free groceries.
Levra secured the Edtech award for its use of psychometrics and immersive learning to enhance workplace communication and resilience. The Fintech category was won by Jem, which delivers HR and financial services to frontline workers through WhatsApp.
ArcFlow received the Future of Work award for its AI-powered ERP software designed for small and medium enterprises. In Healthtech, Biomine Health was recognised for using gut bacteria data to inform cancer treatment decisions.
PayGas won the Informal Market category for enabling pay-as-you-go LPG refills, while Delivery Ka Speed was named the Mobility and Logistics winner for addressing delivery challenges and youth unemployment. The People’s Choice award went to FindHomes, an AI-powered property intelligence platform.
The 2025 awards underscored the diversity and depth of South Africa’s startup landscape, highlighting ventures operating across technology, sustainability, health, finance and social impact sectors nationwide impact.
