Code4Mzansi Opens Doors for South African Developers. Huawei has announced the launch of the Huawei Developer Competition 2025 – Code4Mzansi, inviting South African developers and technology innovators to participate in its global flagship developer programme. The competition forms part of Huawei’s international developer initiatives, which have involved more than 800,000 developers from over 50 countries since 2017. Code4Mzansi places a specific focus on South Africa, encouraging local participants to create cloud-based solutions that address real-world challenges.
Opportunities for Developers, Startups and Students
The competition is open to developers, software engineers, AI and data scientists, startups, small and medium enterprises, and students. Participants will compete for a share of R800,000 while gaining access to Huawei Cloud tools, APIs, and platforms. According to the competition outline, entrants will also receive technical mentorship, expert guidance, and opportunities to engage with peers from other countries through the global Huawei developer ecosystem.
Competition Tracks and Focus Areas
Code4Mzansi is structured around two main tracks. The Business Track focuses on a community-based service and delivery platform for local spaza shops, as well as a digital platform aimed at youth and women enterprise empowerment. The Innovation Track includes themes centred on AI-powered innovations and digital transformation solutions. These tracks are designed to guide participants in developing practical and scalable cloud-driven applications.
Participation Format and Key Dates
Participants may enter individually or form teams of up to five members. Registration is open until 31 January 2026. The solution development phase will run from January to 16 March 2026, followed by submissions from 16 March until the end of March 2026. Online semi-finals are scheduled for April 2026, with onsite finals planned for May 2026.
