Dunlop and Isuzu Launch Local Supplier Development Initiative at Gqeberha Plant

Dunlop and Isuzu Launch Local Supplier Development Initiative at Gqeberha Plant. Dunlop Tyres South Africa has partnered with Isuzu Motors South Africa (IMSAf) to introduce a local supplier development initiative aimed at strengthening localisation and supporting social enterprise development within the automotive manufacturing sector.
The collaboration brings Dunlop’s tyre expertise directly onto the production line at IMSAf’s Struandale plant in Gqeberha. As part of the initiative, Eastern Cape Tyres, owned by long-standing Dunlop franchisee Matthew Nondwayi, has been appointed to manage the in-house tyre assembly operations at the facility. The operations were officially launched in April 2025.
According to Dunlop Tyres South Africa chief executive officer Lubin Ozoux, the partnership demonstrates the impact of multinational companies working together to support local enterprise. He said the initiative not only empowers local entrepreneurs but also ensures IMSAf benefits from high-quality technical expertise and service on its production line.
Nondwayi has more than 30 years of experience in the tyre industry and has operated Dunlop fitment centres for over 25 years. His business journey began with Eastern Cape Tyres, which expanded to three branches in Alice and King William’s Town. Through this new role, his company now supports tyre assembly operations within an automotive manufacturing environment.
Speaking on the partnership, Nondwayi described the initiative as a milestone in his career, noting that it reflects decades of commitment to quality service. He said the opportunity to support IMSAf’s assembly line in the Eastern Cape highlights the potential of partnerships that prioritise local enterprise development.
IMSAf has welcomed the collaboration, citing the benefits of working with a trusted tyre specialist supported by Dunlop’s technical training, customer service standards, and national network. The transition into operations has been reported as seamless, with positive feedback from IMSAf teams.
IMSAf executive vice president for Procurement and Logistics, Komane Pitso, said the partnership aligns with the company’s commitment to transformation and inclusivity by strengthening the local value chain and creating opportunities for local businesses across the sector.
