Empowering Confidence: Interview With Aurum Beauty CEO, Silindokuhle Mthimunye

Empowering Confidence: Interview With Aurum Beauty CEO, Silindokuhle Mthimunye. There are brands born from market research, and then there are brands born from meaning. Aurum Beauty belongs firmly in the latter. Led by founder and CEO Silindokuhle Mthimunye, the South African beauty and wellness brand is rooted in a deeply personal story, one that transforms loss into purpose and intention into product. With a name drawn from the Latin word for gold, Aurum Beauty reflects a philosophy that sees beauty not as something superficial, but as something precious, cultivated from within and carried outward with confidence. In a crowded beauty industry, Aurum Beauty has carved out its own space by centering wellness, education and self worth. From collagen hydrolysate supplements to carefully formulated tissue oils and soaps, the brand speaks to women who want to feel supported at every stage of life. It is also unapologetically Black owned and African led, with representation, inclusion and cultural pride shaping both its mission and its voice. In this interview, Mthimunye opens up about the blessing that inspired Aurum Beauty, the science and intention behind her ingredient choices, and the realities of building a values driven startup in a competitive market. She speaks candidly about postpartum recovery, confidence, sustainability and the responsibility that comes with creating products people trust. Read all about it below!
What inspired the creation of Aurum Beauty, and what gap did you identify in the local beauty and wellness market?
The creation of Aurum Beauty was inspired by the powerful blessing that my mom spoke upon me at the time of her death, she took her last breath in my hands and said “I bless your hands- Everything you touch will turn into gold” Aurum is a latin term that means gold hence the chemical symbol for gold on the Periodic Table of Elements is “Au”. Paired with Beauty, it reflects the last part of my full name, Silindokuhle. Turning beauty into something precious like gold. I identified a gap in the local beauty and wellness market where there’s a lack of understanding about collagen, the most abundant protein in our bodies and its role. Many people view collagen hydrolysate as a ‘miracle’ fix, but it’s actually a supplement that replenishes what’s naturally part of our bodies. As we age, our collagen production decreases and supplements like Aurum Beauty Collagen Hydrolysate help refill those depleted stores, supporting skin, joint and overall health from with.
As a proudly Black-owned brand, how does ownership and representation shape Aurum Beauty’s identity and mission?
As a proudly Black-owned brand, Aurum Beauty’s identity and mission are deeply rooted in representation and empowerment. Our ownership reflects our commitment to celebrating Black beauty, wellness and culture of African skin, hair, and wellness traditions, while contributing a more inclusive narrative. Representation matters -it shapes how we see ourselves and how we’re seen in the world. At Aurum Beauty we’re committed to being a brand that not only speaks to Black women but is also led by and for our community. Our mission is to empower confidence, self-love and wellness for all with a proud African heart.
Why did you choose ingredients such as collagen hydrolysate, tissue oil, and glutathione soap as the foundation of your product range?
We chose these ingredients as the foundation of our product range because they work synergistically to support beauty and wellness from within and out. While Collagen Hydrolysate works internally to support skin elasticity, joint health, and overall vitality-the internal changes are then visible on the outside. Our tissue oil made with nourishing grape seed oil and marula seed oil, complements collagen’s work by providing nourishment, helping to lock in moisture and support skin health. The glutathione soap further supports skin wellness by providing antioxidant benefits and helping to maintain skin clarity. Together, these ingredients help maintain and enhance the results of collagen’s internal work, promoting a healthy, radiant glow.
How do you balance premium quality with affordability to ensure your products remain accessible to all?

Sustainability is indeed a core to Aurum Beauty’s vision. Our Collagen Hydrolysate is made of bovine/porcine sourced from Brazil then manufactured in South Africa. For packaging we, we’re focus on minimizing waste and optimizing energy efficiency in our process. We’re also looking into partnerships for carbon offsetting where applicable
Your philosophy says, “Beauty comes from within.” How do your products support both inner wellbeing and outer confidence?
At Aurum Beauty we believe beauty truly comes from within-and our products are designed to support that philosophy. Collagen Hydrolysate for example, supports gut health, which impacts not just digestion but also radiance. Take bad breath: it’s not just about what you eat, but also about the bacteria in your gut. Support gut health with Aurum Beauty Collagen Hydrolysate, and you have fresher breath, making it easier to connect with others confidently. It’s about feeling empowered inside out. When you feel good, you can conquer anything.
How does your collagen hydrolysate product specifically support women’s confidence and overall wellness?
My Collagen Hydrolysate products are very personal to me because I know firsthand how life stages like postpartum (depression) can impact a women’s confidence and wellness, because we carry pregnancy differently as same applies to how it treats us. During my postpartum journey in 2024, I struggled with weight gain, skin changes, and losing myself in the process. But discovering collagen hydrolysate was a game-changer-it supported my recovery and helped me regain confidence and reminded me “Who I was” For women navigating the similar challenges, I want Aurum Beauty Collagen Hydrolysate to be a trusted support. It’s about nourishing your body from the inside out so that you feel good in your skin, tackle life stresses, and show up confidently-no matter what’s happening around you.
