Cape Town YouthStart Challenge Opens 2026 Entries

Cape Town YouthStart Challenge Opens 2026 Entries. Entries have officially opened for the 2026 edition of the City of Cape Town’s YouthStart Entrepreneurial Challenge, a youth enterprise development initiative designed to equip young people with business skills, mentorship and structured support.

Now in its 10th year, the programme begins accepting applications from 24 January 2026, with the submission deadline set for 24 February 2026. The City of Cape Town says the challenge forms part of its broader efforts to promote youth entrepreneurship and support young people in starting and growing sustainable businesses.

A notable change to this year’s format is that all selected participants will complete the full training programme before the pitching rounds begin. According to the City, this adjustment ensures that every successful applicant benefits from structured skills development, knowledge-sharing and networking opportunities, regardless of how far they progress during the competition phase.

Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health, Councillor Francine Higham, said the initiative aims to unlock the potential of young entrepreneurs. The programme is open to individuals with new business ideas as well as those already running existing ventures.

To qualify, applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 35, be South African citizens residing in Cape Town, and present a business concept or operation with the potential for profitability and long-term sustainability. A total of 150 participants will be selected through an online application process. Submissions will be evaluated based on innovation, impact and sustainability potential.

Training and mentorship activities are scheduled to run from March to April 2026. Pitching rounds will follow from April to May, with an awards ceremony planned for the end of May.

Applications can be submitted through the City of Cape Town’s official website, with additional details available on the YouthStart platform and the City’s youth development channels.
