Madadeni Welcomes First Enclosed Mall with 75 Retail Stores and Essential Services

Madadeni Welcomes First Enclosed Mall with 75 Retail Stores and Essential Services. Madadeni in northern KwaZulu-Natal has opened its first enclosed shopping mall, with the 19,000m² Madadeni Mall bringing 75 retail outlets and essential services closer to residents in the area.

Developed by The Muller Group, the shopping centre opened to the public on Thursday, 29 October 2026. It is anchored by Shoprite and Boxer and serves a residential catchment of more than 40,000 households.

Located approximately 16km from Newcastle’s central business district, the mall brings together national retailers, local businesses, food outlets and services covering banking, telecommunications and healthcare.

Its retail offering includes Clicks, Ackermans, Pep, Pep Home, Clothing Junction and Nizams, while Roots Butchery adds to its grocery and food retail options.

Furniture and household retailers operating at the centre include Bradlows, Beares, Real Beds and The Bed Shop. Food outlets include McDonald’s, KFC, Wimpy and Debonairs, alongside local business Mbuthweni Bakery.

The development is positioned along a major transport route, providing access for residents and commuters. Nearby institutions include Majuba College, Majuba Technology Centre, Madadeni Hospital and Madadeni Nursing Campus, as well as the local police station and magistrate’s court.

Jonathan Tagg, chief executive officer of The Myriad Retail Property Group, said the development was aimed at bringing a broader retail offering closer to people living and working in Madadeni.

He said the combination of supermarket anchors, national brands, local businesses and essential services was intended to provide shoppers with greater convenience while giving retailers access to an established consumer market.

KwaZulu-Natal Member of the Executive Council for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs Musa Zondi attended the official opening alongside Amajuba District Municipality leadership.

Tagg said the long-term success of the development would depend on how effectively it served the community, adding that the focus had been on creating an accessible environment where residents could access everyday shopping and services in one location.

The opening introduces a new retail destination to Madadeni’s residential and commercial landscape.
