PG Bison Advances R240m Mkhondo Manufacturing Investment Ahead of Schedule

PG Bison Advances R240m Mkhondo Manufacturing Investment Ahead of Schedule. PG Bison’s R240 million investment in a new melamine-faced board (MFB) production line at its Mkhondo facility in Mpumalanga is progressing ahead of schedule, with installation work advancing towards the planned start-up.
The new high-volume, high-pressure production line will become the fourth MFB line at the Mkhondo facility and the company’s ninth overall. It is expected to significantly expand PG Bison’s value-added manufacturing capacity, strengthening its ability to supply customers in South Africa and international markets.
The company says the installation incorporates some of the most advanced technology available globally and is set to become the most technologically advanced MFB line in Africa.
The additional capacity will improve production flexibility, product consistency and supply capabilities. Its high-pressure press technology will also allow PG Bison to explore more advanced surface finishes and develop products in line with changing international design and innovation trends.
The investment forms part of the company’s strategy to expand value-added production and strengthen its product offering through technology and innovation.
It also supports commitments made at the Presidential Investment Conference, alongside the objectives of the South African Furniture Industry Master Plan and Forestry Master Plan. These initiatives include creating further localisation opportunities across the furniture and forestry value chains and improving the competitiveness of locally manufactured products.
PG Bison chief executive officer Gerhard Victor said the company was pleased with progress on the project, highlighting the contribution of its internal project team in keeping installation ahead of schedule.
He described the investment as an important commitment to South African manufacturing, with benefits extending to both local and international markets.
Victor said access to advanced manufacturing technology would enable the company to introduce innovative products to a broader customer base while responding to growing demand for its offerings.
He added that the project reflected the continued commitment of PG Bison and its parent company, KAP, to localisation, sustainable growth and long-term value creation.
Once operational, the additional MFB line will strengthen PG Bison’s production infrastructure and expand its capacity to manufacture value-added board products for its markets.
