South African Business Leader Alfred Ramosedi Elected Global President of CIMA
South African Business Leader Alfred Ramosedi Elected Global President of CIMA. South African business executive Alfred Ramosedi has been elected as the 93rd President of The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), becoming one of the profession’s most senior global leaders at a time when finance and accounting are undergoing rapid technological and organisational change.
Ramosedi was elected during CIMA’s Annual General Meeting held on 24 June 2026. In addition to serving as President of CIMA, he will also take up the role of the 11th Co-Chair of the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants, the global alliance formed by CIMA and the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA).
During his presidential term, Ramosedi said his priorities will centre on strengthening trust within the profession, advancing the adoption of artificial intelligence, and creating greater opportunities for future generations entering finance and accounting.
“The choices we make today, how we earn trust, embrace technology, lead through uncertainty and invest in the next generation, will shape the future of finance and accounting,” Ramosedi said following his appointment.
Ramosedi brings more than three decades of experience in South Africa’s financial services industry. His career includes senior leadership positions at Nedbank, where he served for 15 years before becoming Managing Executive of Nedbank Private Bank in 2008. He later held executive roles at Absa Bank and African Bank before being appointed Chief Executive Officer of Bayport Financial Services South Africa in 2017.
His association with CIMA also spans decades. Ramosedi joined the CIMA Gauteng Branch as Secretary in 1998 before becoming President of the South Africa Area Committee in 1999. He later served as the inaugural Chairperson of the Southern Africa Regional Board from 2002 to 2009.
After serving on CIMA Council and several global committees, Ramosedi returned to the organisation’s governing structures in 2023. Over the past year, he served as Deputy President and currently sits on both CIMA’s Appointments Committee and the CGMA Exam Board. He was also awarded the CIMA Silver Medal in 2013 in recognition of his contribution to the institute.
Alongside Ramosedi’s election, Dr Matthew Hansard was elected as CIMA Deputy President.
The appointment places a South African business leader at the forefront of one of the world’s largest professional accounting bodies, with responsibility for helping guide the profession through developments including digital transformation, artificial intelligence and evolving business expectations.
