EDITION Hotels Opens First African Property at Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront. International luxury hospitality brand EDITION Hotels has made its African debut with the opening of The Cape Town EDITION at the V&A Waterfront, introducing 142 guestrooms and suites, five dining and bar venues and a range of wellness and event facilities.

Located at Quay 7, the hotel overlooks the V&A Waterfront’s superyacht marina, with views of Table Mountain. The opening marks the brand’s expansion into Africa, adding Cape Town to a global portfolio that includes London, New York, Tokyo, Barcelona and Lake Como.

The property was designed by Neri&Hu in collaboration with Cape Town-based architects and professional firms. Its architecture draws inspiration from the industrial character of the historic harbour, with more than six million bricks laid by hand to create its exterior façade.

Inside, the hotel incorporates African art, local craftsmanship and contemporary design. Its collection includes works by South African artists Zanele Muholi, Usha Seejarim and Chuma Maweni, while furnishings and rugs include pieces produced by KwaZulu-Natal-based Shuttleworth Weaving.

The hotel’s food and beverage offering is led by executive chef Phil Carmichael and South African beverage partner George Hunter. Its five venues include Shale, the signature restaurant focusing on seasonal ingredients from Cape farmers, fisheries and independent producers; Eave, a rooftop restaurant and bar; the Pool Terrace; Lobby Bar; and Punch Room, which specialises in shared punch bowls.

Additional facilities include a spa with five treatment rooms, a couples’ suite, sauna and steam room, as well as a 24-hour gym. Guests can also access scheduled yoga, breathwork, sound baths and movement sessions.

For business and private events, the property offers a ballroom accommodating up to 200 people, a boardroom, two meeting studios and a private event terrace.

V&A Waterfront chief executive Graham Wood said the opening represented a milestone in the development of the Waterfront and its Granger Bay precinct.

The hotel also plans to host collaborations with chefs, winemakers and creative practitioners, alongside cultural activities and other experiences.
