Five Young SA Entrepreneurs To Be On The Look Out For
Five young SA entrepreneurs to be on the lookout for. South Africa is home to a great bunch of vibrant and creative young people with a desire to stand out in the most unique way possible. Each break of dawn brings with it, a new business idea, proving truly that only the sky is the limit.
What is particularly interesting about young South African entrepreneurs is their ability to think out the box as far as business is concerned. The level of creativity they possess is almost unimaginable and it’s only when you come across their work, does one realize that indeed anything is possible. Here is a look at five of some of those very gifted entrepreneurs:
1. Reabetswe Ngwane
Reabetswe Ngwane is a young designer and the co-founder of KreamFields and Atyre. She specializes in producing retailer eco-friendly handbags completely made out of old tyres. The bags are top quality, one would not actually believe the materials that go into production. Ngwane grew up in Mogwase, close to Rustenburg where she first learnt the potential of recycling tyres to create beautiful and sustainable fashion accessories. Her company is committed to the craft of making bags but with a vision of inclusivity and poverty eradication as she works had in hand with communities.
2. Luvuyo Rani
Luvuyo, partnered with his brother, Lonwabo and founded Silulo Ulutho Technologies – a company servicing youth and adults in the Western and Eastern Cape provinces, equipping them with much-needed computer skills. The company’s key objective is the empowerment of all African citizens to become part of the digital community. A true depiction of where there is a will, there is a way, their journey started at the back of the boot in their car and has grown immensely from there. It’s one thing to focus on profit, and another to care for the community and that speaks volumes for Rani as an entrepreneur.
3. Sihle Ndlela
Sihle Ndlela is the co-founder of Majozi Bros Construction, a Durban-based construction company. He co-founded his construction company with Simphiwe Majozi and it’s fair to say the duo have been doing well for themselves. However, Ndlela’s business journey is no fairy-tale. He was forced to drop out of varsity shortly after the passing of his father and found himself doing anything to survive before finding his feet in the construction industry. His favourite words are, “Only rain falls from the sky, nothing is going to fall into your lap. Success is what you make it”. Good things are coming for Majozi Bros Construction and it’s only exciting to imagine how much greatness they are destined for.
4. Mikie Monametsi
Popularly known as the spice lady, Mikie Monametsi is the founder of Mama’s Herbs and Spices. The beauty is devoted to providing quality spices and herbs at affordable rates to township communities. She has also taken it upon herself to share as much as she can on healthy living as well as the role played by food in that regard with these communities but also ensuring she makes money out of it. Her secret to poverty eradication is the trade factor in her busines that allows members of the community to resell her products and earn money.
5. Zuko Tisani
Zuko Tisani is the founder of Legazy Technology Conferencing, a business centred around supporting tech start-ups in South Africa. He is a UCT graduate who pursued a corporate development career shortly after university but didn’t quite find the fulfilment he was seeking. He went on to apply and got a letter of intent for the rights to host a new Web Summit Conference in South Africa in 2018. From there Legacy Technology Conferencing was born. The company’s sole mandate is to support entrepreneurs who want to make a difference in the world and uplift South African start-up space.
