Founder Of Duma Collective Sibu Mabena Shares The Biggest Challenge She Faced When Starting Her Agency. In an interview with The Morning Show, founder of creative communications agency Duma Collective, Sibu Mabena shared the biggest challenge she faced when she was starting her business.

She said, “I think one of the greatest challenges I experienced was transitioning from being a freelancer to running an operation that I suppose can function in this economy, when you are working alone you are able to do whatever you want, whenever you want, but now you have people that report to you, people that are accountable to you and as you grow even with people, the client base also grows so I think my biggest challenge has been corporatising and kind of being recognised as a formidable agency that your brand can entrust its money to, so it’s the HR Management, the admin, the financial management, the paying of your taxes on time there is offices, just the overheads and I think it was going from being a creative to a business owner, so that was the biggest challenge for me.”

Mabena also added that running a business is something that is very challenging but when a person is willing to learn, they will succeed as they will be able to adapt to different situations. This is why she is also an avid supporter of schools teaching learners about the practical side of running a business as she believes this will give them an edge when they start their own businesses.

Once an entrepreneur has formalised their business, there are a lot of operations that need to be taken care of and when things are not done right it can destroy the whole operation. This is why it’s important to build a formidable team that knows what is expected and delivers. Many entrepreneurs have faced this challenge but through continuous learning and taking action, they overcame this challenge and their business succeeded.
